  Articulation

Articulation is the process of aligning secondary courses with postsecondary courses in an effort to establish a non-duplicative, sequential program of study in a specific career area. In order to be articulated, competencies included in the postsecondary course should be taught in the secondary course. Technical college instructors and high school teachers develop articulation agreements jointly.

Each program is evaluated annually to ensure that the high school Georgia Performance Standards and postsecondary standards correspond. In instances where program standards have been changed, the high school course is evaluated to determine if competencies can be added. If this is not possible, the course can no longer be articulated.

Criteria for articulated credit include:

  • Students must make a minimum grade of 85 in the high school course as determined by the technical college
  • Students must be accepted to a technical college within 18-24 months of graduation from high school
  • Students must validate the credit through an exemption examination at the technical college

Students should plan high school classes to include those that articulate if the classes cover areas of interest them or if they think they might attend a technical college. For additional information, contact your high school counselor or the Admissions Office at Atlanta Technical College.
